Elegance 2.0i 111,000 miles - what can go wrong?

$

Bought from new, 11 years old and 111,000 miles, no major problems over the years. It is due for cam belt / water pump replacement costing about £450. Is it worth it? What else is likely to go wrong soon? Would like to keep if not too much of a gamble. Newish VW Polo is my other option as Mk3 Fabia is too big for garage (and slightly smaller on inside).

Brakes a bit hard

Hi,

The brakes on our 2001 Fabia have always been a bit rubbish (well, in the 18 months we've had it). I was going to put new front discs and pads on the other day, but they're really in quite good nick. The calipers look ok too, and I recently changed the rears (drums, shoes, springs and cylinders).

The car stops ok, and passed its MOT recently, but the pedal seems to take a lot of effort to press, as if not all vacuum assistance is there.

Is there any way or thing I could check? I've not tried holding the pedal down while starting the car (yet). Should it drop slightly when the engine starts if the vacuum is good?

Cheers,

Iain

Replaced wheel bearing - now juddery brakes.

Folks,

Had the Fabia in having the front OS wheel bearing replaced. They pressed the old one out of the hub, and replaced with a new one.

Since getting it back the brakes have felt juddery while under a medium load (ie stopping on a slip way after exiting the motorway). It's a very similar feeling to when the ABS is kicking in.

Took it back to the garage, the dude plugged the computer in, and said no faults were showing. They stuck it on the ramp, and couldn't see anything obviously wrong.

It's back with them today as he gave me some theory that I didn't understand. Being a man in a garage i didn't want to confess that at the time...

Something along the lines of when they pressed the bearing back in it may not be totally in line, which may have caused the brake disc to be a bit off. Said they're going to remove the disc, assess it on a (didn't catch the name) machine, then maybe use their lathe to fix it if possible.

I just blindly nodded and said cool...

Any idea what they're on about?

Felt the interior was a little to bland and dark, so spent last night adding some colour :-)

MKII diffuser :nerd::peek:

Cheers everyone,

I'm Mor from Israel and I own a MKII fabia (white one, manual, 16v, 1.4 manual gearbox).

I'm trying to search Ebay and AliExpress for a diffuser, and I came up empty. I found only diffusers for Octys and not for fabias.

So my question is, any one fitted some other car model diffuser to fit our beloved fabia?

If so, please share your wisdom and if you can, a photo will be awesome.

Best regards,

Mor

Is it possible to still get these through the dealership for a Mk1?

I'm after a set of new Front & Rear Arch Liners and Mud flaps.

If they are.. don't suppose anyone has the part numbers!

Cheers folks.

just had new clutch, pedal is rubbish.

So, just picked my car up from having a new clutch, flywheel and slave cylinder fitted.

if you pump the pedal its fine but if you leave it for 10 minutes and go back to the car it has no pedal, it just pushes to the floor untill you pump it again.

Its been blead up with a bleeder untill fluid is coming out.

The mechanic i used seems to think part of the bleed pipe can give trouble once they have been opened they can somtimes let air in.

I've sat and pumped the pedal for a good 5 minutes and no fluid is leaking out...

Im not sure what to do now other than take it back next week.

Santa Pod meetup 2016

Just want to gauge interest for another meetup at Santa Pod soon?  From recent posts I get the feeling there is some interest from people who attended last year, but not as many.  I propose opening this up to all Fabia Owners (New and old) if there isn't that many vRS to warrant a dedicated meet.

The next RWYB dates are:

7th and 15th of May

Or 4th and 11th of June.

I appreciate this is short notice however and as such is unlikely we'll get Skoda to come along again.

If we have enough people, the day would involve as many runs on the strip as you like and maybe a small informal competition for the fastest times (stock and modified).  It was a lot of fun last year and I'd love to do it again with other Fabias!

Oil Warning?

Just popped to Sainsburys after getting my hair cut and thought I'd grab some Castrol Edge as I was walking past it, so when I got home checked the oil... something's not right I can't even see an oil line on the marker, cleaned it and checked it again and the same thing nothing showed on the marker then it hit me that it must be extremely low because it wasn't even touching the lowest end of the scale so I put 1L in and it barely pushed it past minimum, then chucked another 1L bottle in and now it's showing a good level.

But why in the hell didn't the warning light/noise go off when it was that freaking low? I feel really bad now my poor baby's been starved of Oil... :

Another door lock mechanism thread...

Hello,

I've got a deadlocked front passenger door and I've spent the majority of today getting the door card off and I'm down to the lock mechanism, bodge dremelled the lock to get to the gear and tried both ways but it gets incredibly torqued and if I let go of the screw drivers it 'pings' back... Which way should I be twisting it or is the gear off and broke, and if it's broke how should I proceed?

Here's some pictures to try and explain what I mean -

Should I be turning towards the front or back of the car and is the increasing tightness normal? Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

The light of the  PAS turn on sometimes and in VCDS i have these faults codes

A professional man said me that i had to replace the power steering pump. So i did. I found a second hand pump. The part fitted in my car was 6Q0 423 156G and the pump that i bought was part number 6Q0 423 156 M

so I fitted new pump on my car but the wheel became very hard to turn. Can you tell me please  if i rated a state?

the second question is; in VCDS i have faults codes about (G85) and (G250). I read on the web that there are not two sensors together in fabia. Is it?

Can you help me please?

Thanks

So I've had my monte for a while now and theres a couple of things always bugged me about it so finally decided to start changing them. First of all ill start with what i did most recently. I purchased a MKII Fabia vRS back box from NathsvRS to fit to my monte. Had to cut off the existing backbox with a hacksaw IMG_6864.jpg  IMG_6863.jpg Old backbox vs New, its a perfect swap overIMG_6866.jpg Had to cut the bumper so made a template with some masking tape. This bit you can only do once so anyone planning on doing it tale as much time as you need marking out the cut and you won't go wrongIMG_6867.jpg The finished product, should've came like this from the factory to be honest

Ok so as im changing the rocker cover due to oil leaking, i thought i would take some pics, to see if any knowledgeable folks think stuff under there looks ok :p

I noticed the two closest central headbolts are full off oil, i did changed to pd150 bolts a few months ago.. is this a issue, also i see some wear on the shells, again are they alright?

Not to start an argument, but.... Regarding brakes

$

I'm currently sorting out my brakes, the rears are FUBAR, so I thought stuff it, I'll upgrade them and have done with it. Got myself read up on it, going down the 256 Rears and then 312 fronts. It's more for looks, and I don't want bigger wheels, 45 profile tyres burst your back on the roads around here as it is.

However I am getting conflicting reports on whether I need the whole front calipers, carriers, discs and pads, or just the carriers discs and pads and reuse my existing calipers. I am fine, I am going down the get everything route, so I am covered either way, but others looking at the same upgrade might only go for carriers when what they need is the whole kit. My intention was to keep a set of calipers if they are the same and refurb them and put them on the shelf.

I have looked at the part numbers for the calipers on both the mk1 octy VRs and mk1 Fabia VRs and the only difference is the first 3 digits(model designation?). Is there any definitive advice for doing the 312 mm front brake upgrade on the carrier situation? I assumed from the guide that I needed everything, but elsewhere says otherwise. It may well be that if you get the 312 upgrade from one model, say the TT mk1 2WD and octy mk1 VRs then you don't need carriers but from a mk4 golf for example then you need everything.

If it is the case the carriers only are required provided the calipers are from a certain model, then it might be worth updating the very excellent brake upgrade guide with that info for future enthusiasts[emoji5] .

Cheers

Temperature dropping off when heaters on

I've just changed the thermostat this afternoon due to having a faulty one. So I changed it, left it running with the expansion cap off and topped up the coolant as necessary and it gets up to temp fine. But when I turn the heaters on hot full blast the temperature gauge drops to about halfway. Any ideas? Thanks

Engine temp warning light..

Engine temp warning light came on today when I was travelling down the motorway.. pulled over to hard shoulder, slowed to a stop and went out.. continued my journey to the peak district, noticed oil temp reading on the computer was reading 118ºC !!! In the peak district on the way home, temperature was up and down a bit..one point it kept increasing and didn't look like it was going to drop.. gave me a bit of fright!  had to keep revs low below 2000rpm and the speed down a bit (60mph on the motorway).. it was sitting in the 95ºC to 102ºC range depending on revs, gear etc..

the car is due a service, but I noticed the manual says this is more coolant related than engine oil, which I checked yesterday before my journey and was fine..

can anyone confirm?

Thanks..
