Will 18" wheels 8J wheels fit a fabia without issues?, also what tyre size would be required on an 18" wheels, and does anyone have any experience of running 18"s on a mk2 VRS any issues?, any change in the ride, handling etc?

Thanks

This will be a fairly long process but i'd like to document it on here as i go. I bought the car from a friend back in July 2012 as i had gotten a job 100 miles from home and planned on visiting most weekends so needed something better than a knackered Fiat Brava. My friend had kept the car immaculate as he ran his own detailing business at the time so i knew i was getting a good car.

Sadly since i bought it the paintwork's been neglected as in the nearly 4 years that i've owned it i've moved house 5 times and welcomed the birth of my daughter so i haven't had much spare time to clean it.

The fact that it looked like a rally car that had just completed a gravel stage finally got to me and i gave it a much needed clean yesterday. It was only a quick clean to rid it of the crap that covered it so from a distance it looks good but up close it needs clayed and some slight defects sorting.

My 1st car was a modified Fiat Punto and it was cleaned 2-3 times a week, was always covered with sealant and received a machine polish before every summer so i'd like to get the Fabia to the same level.

The only photo i have of it is from last night, as i was too ashamed to take photos of it in the state it was in so we'll call this the starting point.

The car is number 304, it's standard apart from a Shark stage 1 remap, Octavia vRS brakes all round, black grille surround, TRS tow strap, Leon Cupra splitter, Heko wind deflectors and a stubby aerial. I have plans to change to 17" Octavia Spider wheels, lower it a little as it sits like a tractor, and maybe up the power a little.

Next week i plan on going over the car with Tardis, the wheels with Dragon's Breath, claying the paint and putting on a coat of Jetseal 109 unril i can start to sort the defects.

Thanks for reading, sorry about the long post. Hopefully there'll be a few updates soon.

Still looking for the new owner or owners of said above reg i have all of the service history and locking keys, The reason was the car was written off for some minor damage and the wife was very upset the day it was collected as it was dragged quite away on a wire cable and forgot to give the insurance collection agent the bits and bobs we had in a box, We have had a recent sort out and this resurfaced in a large folder including all the owners and used books.

Im sure the new owner would want what we have as the service is quite detailed. You guys did manage to track it down the last time and i actually spoke to the seller but he couldn't speak English at all well and was quite aggressive over the phone when i told him i had it for some bizarre reason.

All the best all and thanks in advance for the help

Rattle when accelerating

Fabia Estate (2010) Mk 2, 1.2 TSI DSG: - A really dificult problem that's been going on for a year now so can anyone tell me what this rattle is and how to fix it?

Background: -

  1. May 21st 2014 - DSG gearbox oil was changed, at 15940 miles, from synthetic to mineral oil free of charge under Skoda campaign reference 34F7.
  2. Feb 19th 2015 - Minor front end impact damage repaired, at 23000 miles, by insurance company specified repairer.
  3. The DSG has performed smoothly to date so I do not think the noise is DSG related.

Noise: -

  1. Mid-March 2015 – At 23500 miles an annoying random rattling noise when accelerating began to happen. This 150 “taps per minute” rattle is a ‘solid’ rattle like a hammer hitting solid metal (but muted by the engine bay sound insulation) so I do not think it is pinking which is a more high pitched tinkling sound. My initial thought was that a mechanic (from the February repair) had left a spanner in the engine compartment which was rattling against something when accelerating but mechanics say it is not that.
  2. The rattle is random and, when it does happen, it only happens under acceleration. It seems to come from the engine area and it can start and stop suddenly. I.e. I could have driven 10 or 50 miles with no noise then at the next acceleration it can suddenly happen for the next few miles then stop again.
  3. Since June 2015 – Started to use premium grade fuel plus RedeX fuel additive to clean the combustion areas. The noise, when accelerating, still happens sometimes but it is not as loud or as frequent as it was. It may not happen for three weeks then make a reappearance.
  4. Could it be related to the direct injection engine design and the use of cheap fuel causing carbon build-up on the inlet valves which then breaks off in pieces and rattle around the combustion area before passing out through the exhaust valve and entering the exhaust/catalytic converter area? If so then the use of premium grade fuel and RedeX fuel additive has not removed the carbon. It would explain the random nature of the noise but not why it only happens when accelerating and would it be a ‘solid’ rattling noise as described above?
  5. The random nature means that two separate garages heard the noise whilst driving the car but it failed to repeat itself in the workshop (not accelerating) so they have been unable to identify it. Both garages confirm that the exhaust and heat shield are not loose. Internet searches have revealed nothing.
  6. March 2016 - The car passed its MOT (emissions) test carried out by main Skoda dealer so exhaust and catalytic converter must be good.

Thanks in advance.

Anyone tried Truck Oil?

So I am currently running my fabia on Quantum longlife 3 which is 5w30.

I was wondering if I should change up to Truck oil, specially fuchs Titan cargo maxx which is 10w40

Car is currently on 86,000 and I drop the oil every 5,000 due to getting oil easily.. I know the Truck oil is built stronger so maybe it would offer better protection.

Thoughts?

Suspension bearings... help

I've had a good old search of the forum and can't find anything dealing with this, so new post time it is. :)

The suspension bearings (turret bearings/shock bearings/whatever you want to call them) have failed on my 1.2 on a 58 plate.

I'm trying to order a new set, but I have no idea exactly what Skoda call them, and get all sorts of things come up on eBay when I search for them.

Does anybody know exactly what they are called? Or the Skoda part number?

Vehicle reg is AJ58 CXS if it helps anyone with a parts catalogue.

Any help gratefully received.

Fabia Dials Swap

Hello all,

I am new to the forum, I just picked up my 13 plate monte 1.2 tsi, I am loving it. However, the dials do not show me the engine temperature and the petrol guage is digital. Seems my dials are the basic version as below in picture.

I really want to upgrade this to the following set but I am not sure where to source one from and how easy a job this is.

USB connection to Bolero stereo

Hi,

I have recently bought a Fabia III Monte Carlo and am experiencing issues with the stereo system.

I've used my iPod quite happily for the last three years in the Swing stereo in my Mk2 Fabia using the lead provided. However, when I connected my iPod to the Bolero in my Mk3, there are playback issues. There are short 'breaks' in the playback from my iPod to the point where it's almost impossible to listen to.

The breaks in sound don't seem to follow a regular pattern, whether the car is moving or stationery, whether the stereo is loud or quiet. I've also tried 'jiggling' the USB cable where it's plugged in to the car and the iPod but can't seem to find a consistent fault.

I have replaced the USB cable and have even swapped iPods to no avail.

Is anybody else experiencing similar issues? Is there a compatibility issue between iPods and the Bolero stereo? Not really sure what else to try unless I just whack all my songs on to an SD card?

Cheers.

So on Saturday I'm driving down to worthersee for the massive car show. I've been looking at doing the lights and done a quick search about the projector lights and what I've read there is a small lever behind the rubber cover but I can't find any pictures of this and had a quick look on mine between the bloody winter weather.

Any help or info would be great

Front suspension

Hi all,

I am having trouble finding the correct part numbers for the front suspension on a 2006 mk4 polo 9n3 1.4 TDI 80bhp engine code BNV. Looking online there are 2 different shock absorbers shown on skoda parts website. 6Q0413031BH and JZW413031G. The springs shown online are for the VRS  6Q0411105AF, would this be suitable for the smaller diesel engines? Also looked at workshop manuals online for the front suspension part numbers but doesn't list them unfortunately.  I'm looking to replace everything. Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers

strange noise suspect alternator

Hi,  Can any one other any advise on this.  car has done 135000 miles . fabia vrs 2004.

the aux belt was changed at 130000, along with alternator friction pulley and aux tensioner as well as the water pump and drive belt. car has full service history , i have had it 12 years now.

any way issue is is i am getting a strange and constant noise that sound like a  fan or wind noise as if the window is open low pitch sound that gets slightly more noticable  at speed above 30mph and can here it at above 70mph and its the same level of noise and sound , coming from the engine bay . .if you take the car out of gear at any speed and let the revs go down its still there and car here it . it is not coming from door seals or windscreen etc . i have got it to do it when the car was not moving.

tonight i took the engine sound cover off the top , kept the bonnet open, switch the lights and blower on full etc trying to have all the switches etc on and listened to any noises that the engine was making and associated moving items . the only part that i could here making a noise was the alternator when all the switches etc where on i could here a fan type motor blowing noise coming from the altenator , when i knocked all the power off and had the car on tick over i could still here the alternator making a noise is this usual?

the noise has just started within the last 1500 mile or so . the only way to try and describe it is its sound like almost like a old noisey computer fan type noise you have on a lap topthat needs changing as if the bearing are on the way out and are getting hot   if that makes any sense , i can here the noise inside the car when i am traveling in the car .

any ideas any one ?  I think its alternator as may be since changing the front jockey pulley and aux belt and tensioner 6000 miles ago this has in some way now affected the alternator , or its just a life span of alternator etc of the car and it could be any thing, i know its not a clutch , turbo or vacume noise as power is still fine and no smoke etc from the back of the car .

Monte TDi reliability

My 2013 Monte 105ps TDi is coming up to its first MOT (31,000 miles) and apart from yearly servicing it's never had to go back to the dealer for any warranty work. The only thing to fail so far (touches wood) was a blown DRL bulb. Admittedly it's on its third set of boots up front (I'm not known for driving like a nun ;)), and I've just replaced all 3 wiper blades (fair wear and tear), but this is the first new car I've had in 43 years of motoring that didn't need to get some minor niggle fixed, or require some major warranty work. Added to that it still puts a smile on my face when I drive it so I don't intend to swap it any time soon, much to the consternation of my local dealership!
Anyone else had solid reliable service from their Fabia?
